Crane Youth Music (CYM) offers two scholarship opportunities to assist camper families with tuition, with several awards made to students under each scholarship fund. The Scott LaVine Scholarship provides partial assistance for campers with financial need, and is open to all CYM campers. The Mark Hartman CYM Scholarship provides partial assistance specifically to low brass (trombone, euphonium, tuba) campers with financial need. Campers are invited to apply for one or both scholarships, as appropriate for their area of study.
Applications must be accompanied by a recommendation from a private or school instructor, a letter from a parent or guardian stating the financial need, and a copy of the most recent NYSSMA solo adjudication sheet or a comparable document of evaluation. Incomplete applications will not be considered. No full scholarships are awarded.

Scholarship AlternativesWhile CYM is able to offer partial scholarships to assist some campers with the costs of registration, many families find themselves at a loss when it comes to looking elsewhere. Many alternative forms of assistance exist for those who are willing to seek them out. We encourage CYM families to contact the following organizations in their local areas for help in covering tuition:
- Jack Kent Cooke Foundation: Young Scholars Program
- Local arts or humanities councils
- County music associations
- School music clubs
- Music educators associations
- Booster clubs
- Churches or auxiliary organizations
- Social services or children/family services
- Local "reach out" programs
- Community organizations such as Zontas, Knights of Columbus, AmVets, etc.
